On the 3rd of December the Strijdom Park Convenience Centre management and staff donated goodies towards Phola’s graduation event to be held on 10 December 2021. We appreciate the company’s support and generous contribution.
Phola is a nonprofit organization which depends on generosity and goodwill of citizens, philanthropists, and business community like the Strijdom Park Convenience Centre who made a huge donation. With such help Phola can reach out to communities seeking mental health intervention and psychosocial support.
The organization registered with the Department of Social Development in 2016 with aim to support women, children, men, youth, and families experiencing depression, trauma, and mental health challenges.
Phola in collaboration with other organizations recently marked 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Based Violence and Femicide by visiting communities in Cosmo City, Zandspruit, Diepsloot and other surrounding areas highlighting the scourge of gender-based violence.
The United Nations Population Fund defines Gender-Based violence as the harmful acts directed at an individual based on their gender, it is rooted in gender inequality, the abuse of power and harmful norms.
It is a serious violation of human rights and life-threatening health and protection issue. The United Nations further estimates that one in three women will experience sexual or physical violence in their lifetime. During displacement and times of crisis, the threat of GBV significantly increases for women and girls.
Phola on a shoe-string budget has been able to offer counselling services to more than five hundred individuals battling depression, mental health, and trauma. With more financial resources at its disposal Phola will be able to expand its work and reach needier communities.
Phola’s offerings are free to community members, and does not charge for these services, we help anyone who needs help regardless of class, color, or station in life.
Phola psychologists, social workers and volunteers are reaching communities and schools to facilitate sessions on Phola methodologies which help people to deal with stressful and traumatic experiences.
